Burt tells his therapist about how and why he killed Mary's firsthusband. The therapist reassures Burt that it was self-defense and not murder. Dennis,Corinne, Eunice, Benson and Danny (in disguise) all visit Jodie in the hospital. Corinnetells Jodie that she's in love with Father Tim. Mary and Jessica meet for lunch, wherethey catch Chester and Claire kissing. Episode 10 - Jessica concludes that there's a curse on the family. Burt tries to recreate the scene of Peter'smurder. Tired of running from the mob, Danny plans to confront Mr. Lefkowitz, the crimekingpin. Ingrid and Randolph learn of Corinne's arrest. Danny breaks into Lefkowitz'shouse and meets his sex-starved daughter, Elaine. Mary gives Jodie advice aboutrebuilding his life. Billy is the last to know about Corinne's arrest. Ingrid shows upat the jail and identifies herself as Corinne's real mother. Episode 16 - Jessica, Chester and Ingrid visit Corinne in jail. Someone is blackmailing Congressman McCallum about his affair with Eunice. Benson poses as Jessica's lawyer to bring her breakfast. Chester hires a real lawyer todefend Jessica. Jessica admits that the gun that killed Peter does belong to her. Thelawyer refuses to take the case. Episode 18 - Father Tim tells Corinne that he's going on a religious retreat so hecanforget about her. Mary confronts Burt about his emotional problems. Burt tells Marythat he can make himself invisible. Chester hires E. Ronald Mallu to represent Jessica. Out on bail, Jessica tries to leave the country, but Benson talks her out of it. Maryconvinces Jessica that she's loved and needed. Chester fires Claire. Claire turnsChester in to the SEC. Episode 19 - Mallu interviews the Tates and Campbells, looking in vain foracceptablecharacter witnesses. The psychiatrist advises Mary to have Burt hospitalized forobservation. Ingrid poisons Corinne's mind against Jessica. Congressman McCallumreceives compromising pictures from the blackmailer. Eunice climbs out on a ledge toavoid being caught by Marilyn. A courier comes to pick up McCallum's speech andwalks off with the pictures instead. Episode 20 - Eunice climbs off the ledge and into a stranger's hotel room. McCallumpromises Eunice a new life, but backs out when the courier returns the pictures. Jodieconfronts Chuck about the nasty notes he's been getting from Bob. Danny tries to breakoff with Elaine. Mr. Lefkowitz tells Danny that he has to marry Elaine. Burt learnsthat Mary intends to have him committed. The prosecutor in Peter's murder case turnsout to be the twin brother of the lawyer who refused to defend Jessica. It is revealedthat the judge once lost $40,000 because of bad advice he got from Chester. Episode 21 - Danny brings Elaine home to meet the Campbell family Corinnebreaksinto Father Tim's retreat cabin. The Major comes home after being out all night,claiming that he has met the woman of his dreams. Jessica locks herself in thebathroom to avoid going to trial. Jodie meets and is immediately propositioned byCarol, Mallu's assistant. Jessica's trial begins. Episode 22 - Carol talks Jodie into going away with her for the weekend, despitehisinsistence that they can only be friends. Burt checks into the mental hospital. Billyruns away. Danny explains to Mary why he has to marry Elaine. Benson brings Billyhome. Billy explains that he ran away because he didn't want his poor report card toadd to the family's problems. Benson, Chester and Jessica testify at the trial. Theprosecutor boasts that his surprise witness will make the jury want to lynch Jessica. Episode 23 - Congressman McCallum dumps Eunice after Marilyn threatens to ruinhispolitical career. Unable to save his sanity any other way, Burt confesses to Mary thathe killed her first husband. Ingrid has a sexual encounter with the judge in Jessica'strial. Corinne walks out after learning of Ingrid's vendetta against the Tates. FatherTim tells his mother that he may leave the priesthood because of Corinne. Mallu asksJessica if she knows who the surprise witness might be. The surprise witness turns outto be Mrs. Fein, who testifies that she heard Jessica threaten to kill Peter. Episode 24 - Jodie finds himself in bed with Carol. Mary can't decide how shefeelsabout Burt when he comes home from the hospital. Jodie tells Carol that he won't havesex with her again. Jessica is the only person in the Tate household who gets any sleepafter Mrs. Fein's testimony in court. Corinne realizes that Jessica is her true mother. Ingrid comes to reconcile with Corinne, but Corinne refuses to go with her. ChiefTinkler arrests Chester for stock fraud. The murder case goes to the jury. The Majorstorms the courtroom trying to rescue Jessica. Episode 25 (FIRST SEASON FINALE) - Lefkowitz threatens to kill the CampbellsifDanny runs away. Father Tim tells Corinne that he is leaving the priesthood, butrefuses to be intimate with her until they are married. Carol convinces Jodie that theyshould live together. Dennis resurfaces, announcing that he wants Jodie back. Jessicaadmits to Chester that she's scared about what the jury might decide. Mallu tellsJessica that he is in love with her. The jury finds Jessica guilty. Episode 26 (SECOND SEASON PREMIERE) - The Tates and Campbells broodaboutwhich of them really killed Peter. Chester attempts suicide but only gets a bump on thehead. Danny and Burt help Jodie move in with Carol. Dennis brings a housewarminggift. A thoughtless comment from Jessica makes Mary suspect that Burt might behaving an affair. Mallu vows to exonerate Jessica. Jessica tells Benson that he has tobe strong for everybody else's sake. Mother Flotsky puts a curse on Tim and Corinne. Jessica appeals to the real killer to step forward before the judge pronounces sentence. Episode 27 - The judge sentences Jessica to 50 years. Chester confesses to havingmurdered Peter. Chester explains to Jessica that he had repressed all memory of themurder, but it came back to him when he got bumped on the head. The Tates can'tsleep, so they all end up cooking. Jessica urges the children not to stop loving theirfather. Chester gets put in the same cell with Dutch, another convicted murderer. Burtconvinces Mary that he is not having an affair. Chester and Dutch climb out a window. Dannyfaces his wedding day. At the reception, Mr. Lefkowitz announces that he wants nothingmore to do with Elaine. Chester and Dutch go over the wall. Currently,our Aid and Relief programs center on South Sudan--A place involved in a civilwar for more than 18years between the Muslim government in the north and the separatist Sudan PeoplesLiberation Army (SPLA), and other rebel groups in the Christian south. As a result ofthe war, Sudan is under constant threat of famine and disease. Almost two millionSudanese have died from war, famine, and disease and over twomillion have fled the war. The war has left the Sudanese with nothing; noschools, no monetary system, no roads, no running water, no electricity, no food, and nohealth care- even though diseases are rampant. The needs are overwhelming. Theverses in Matthew 25 describe them exactly. Underthe umbrella organization of Operation Lifeline Sudan (OLS), we have beeninvolved in providing urgent care for the southern Sudanese since1993--primarily in the Upper Nile region. CMA provides the onlycommunity medical clinics in this extremely remote area. Thebottom line is that if CMA wasn't operating in this area, thousands of Sudanese wouldsuffer and die. Morethan 82,000 people received care in the CMA clinics in this neglected area. . Throughour training programs we have been able to equip Community Health Workers(CHW’s) Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA’s) and Extended Program ofImmunization workers (EPI’s). PrimaryHealth Care Clinics (PHCC’s) CMA operates Clinics in the Central/Eastern Upper Nile - An area that encompasses in excess of 300,000 people. These areas of operation are very remote and undeveloped. There are no roads or infrastructure;the only way in is by air or by foot. Both the local A PHCC is the main CMA clinic site with professionally trained staff. We also oversee PHCU’s (Primary Health Care Units). The PHCC provides the medicines and supervision for the unit, and the PHCU provides reporting information to the PHCC. The difference between the Clinic and the Unit is the presence of professionally qualified staff and equipment at the Clinic, while the Unit has only a Community Health Worker (CHW) with a basic medicine kit. CMA has modified this approach with the addition of secondary sites around the PHCC in case of evacuation. With this model, we won’t have to evacuate sites completely when the area becomes insecure, which is a common occurrence due to the ongoing war. CMAsEducation Program in South Sudan Over 70% of school age children in South Sudan donot receive an education of any sort, nor has there been any formal educationfor 17 years or more in the Upper Nile region. This figure presents a major challenge for all the humanitarian agenciesconsidering the appalling and alarming situation of girls where enrollment ratesare very low. In 1999, CMA took onthis challenge and began an education program in Langken with hopes of promotingthe general welfare of the communities. Read more... Guinea Worm Eradication Program In partnership with the Carter Center, CMA joined in an international effort to eradicate Guinea Worm disease. In the global picture, Sudan is critical to the worldwide effort to eradicate this parasite, because Sudan represents more than 60% of the world’s cases. Similarly, it is also reported that given a global comparison, the area in South Sudan where CMA operates has the highest recorded occurrences of this painful and disabling infection. Read more... ExtendedProgram of Immunization (EPI) South Sudan has been termed a ‘tropical disease paradise’ and it lives up to its title. By an extended program of immunization, CMA trains local people from surrounding villages. They gain practical experience in the CMA clinic, and then walk from village to village providing this lifesaving service, and then returning to the main clinic for more supplies. They also report back on what diseases are most prolific, and where more concentrated efforts need to be made. Our EPI team has earned a reputation of being one of the best in the OLS community and has been recognized for their outstanding efforts in the polio campaign. We immunize more than 7,000 Sudanese each year (primarily children) against diseases such as measles, diphtheria, typhoid, and other diseases that are prolific in South Sudan. Summary& Projections Programs in Sudan are some of the most stressful and detailed that CMA operates.Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting all start at the field level with CMAexpatriate staff monitoring the work of the nationals and providing feedback onthe spot. This is essential if we are to attempt to adequately address the needsrepresented. We continue to train Traditional Birth Attendants so they canbetter assist in their villages, and we are on the verge of implementing thefirst ever in OLS ‘Mobile Team’ which will better reach out to thesurrounding villages and be invaluable when it comes to monitoring situationsand preventing disease outbreaks and malnutrition.
