When vtamin A is ingested some is oxidised to the aldehyde retinal in visual purple and some is oxidised to the acid retinoic acid. In other words, some ingested vitamin A is converted to tretinoin in the body. Yet tretinoin is a prescription only drug! ReTrieveCream contains tretinoin 0.05% in a hydrophilic cream base. Indications Treatment of acne. It acts in two ways. Initially it has a keratolytic action producing peeling and sloughing which unblocks plugged comedones. Second it promotes drainage of the duct and its comedone, it normalises the follicular epithelium and inhibits the formation of new comedones Treatment of dry skin due to photo aging. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to tretinoin or ingredients of base. Warnings Concomitant application of other topical preparations should be avoided eg cosmetics, keratolytics such as sulphur, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide Exposure to sunlight or sunlamps should be minimised because patients receiving tretinoin treatment are more susceptible to the effect of ultraviolet light ultraviolet light. Patients with sunburn should use ReTrieve only after their skin is fully recovered. Patients should routinely use high SPF sunscreens (SPF 30) during treatment. Pregnancy There have been isolated reports of birth defects in babies born to women using topical tretinoin in pregnancy. In a retrospective study in a maternity hospital in San Diego CA, babies born to 215 women exposed to topical tretinoin during the first trimester of pregnancy, found no more birth defects among these babies than those born to 430 women who were not exposed. Precautions Avoid contact with mucous membranes and open wounds. It should not be applied to the eyes, mouth, lips or angles of the nose. Exercise caution in patients with eczema. If redness or stinging occurs, discontinue temporarily and repeat using smaller quantities less frequently or dilute with an equal quantity of sorbolene cream. Adverse reactions ReTrieve Cream is generally well tolerated. Side effects mentioned above include transient redness, stinging and peeling. This is normal and indicates keratolytic action, which is the initial action. Sun exposure should be minimised and a high SPF sunscreen used. Dosage ReTrieve should be applied sparingly to the affected areas once daily at bedtime. Wash the affected areas with mild soap or cleanser such as DermaVeen . If excessive irritation occurs, use less frequently or dilute as above. The peeling effect is the initial action followed by the regenerative effect in eight to 10 weeks.

My skin is constantly immersed in a mixture containing about 20% gaseous oxygen, and I haven't noticed anything extraordinary happening to it.
