Other companies began creating their own creams, but often they were nothing more than petroleum jelly mixed with a little fragrance. Women began thinking about how they could make their skin look younger and an early version of an acid peel arrived on the scene. How comfortable it was is debatable as it was simply a combination of acid and electric currents applied to the skin. Obviously it did remove the outer layer of skin. Women also discovered that a needle could insert paraffin to the eye area and cheeks. Unfortunately, it was not very successful. An odd looking contraption with chinstraps was introduced to help with saggy jowls and double chins. They obviously didn't work, but women were desperate to try anything that would help. With the introduction of World War 1, women were finding themselves in need of creams and lotions that had once been imported from Paris. This gave the United States the chance to start their own companies to supply the need. TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shows how easy it is to make and package bath salts. Basic Bath Salts Recipe Ingredients: 3 parts Epsom salt 2 parts baking soda Preparation: Mix thoroughly. This is the base to create many varieties of bath salts. Variations To color your mixture, use regular food coloring by the drop. If you need to mix hues, do so in something else first, then add the new color to the salts to avoid a two-tone product. The more drops you add, the darker the color. Be sure to mix until evenly distributed. Add fragrance with essential oils. Add the oil by the drop until you achieve the desired scent. Mix until all particles are moistened. It should smell fairly strong. Packaging Ideas Figure A Bath salts should be stored in a wide-rimmed container rather than a small-necked bottle. The salts may harden, making it very difficult to get them out. Layer different colored salts in the container (figure A) . Tie a spoon to the top for a finishing touch. A wide-mouthed canning jar is a nice way to package bath salts. Decorate the lid decorative with fabric, wrapping paper or ribbons. Figure B Decorate a Mason jar with paint pens, then fill with bath salts. Use a hot-glue gun to attach seashells to the lid (figure B) . Restaurant takeout containers make a great package for bath salts and can be purchased at craft stores. Place single-serving amounts of bath salts in small plastic zipper bags. Place the bags inside a decorative envelope or bag. A decorative gift box is a great place to put bath salts. Use a large seashell as a scoop. (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews This is a really fantastic cream. I absolutely love the elegant scent and rich consistency of this cream. I was given a sample of it, and I'm addicted. I plan to spend the money on a full size container as soon as the sample runs out. The 50 ml sample has lasted quite a while! I'm not worried about spending a little more than I normally would on the full size, since I know it will last a long time. A little bit of this fabulous cream seems to go a long way, because it is so rich and luxurious. It's not greasy or oily and absorbs quickly when applied. I use it as both a body cream and a hand cream and I've found that it works very well for both. It keeps my skin moisturized, which is great in cold weather since the indoor "dry heat" causes my skin to get very dry. Once again, the smell is really wonderful.
