The essential oil combination, along with the neroli hydrosol and virgin coconut oil give this a tropical aroma. But even if you just use distilled water instead of hydrosol and leave out the essential oils, it feels so fantastic on your skin, you'll make it again and again!! Yield: Approx. 4 ounces Prep Time: 45 minutes Price Category: 2 Difficulty Level: 3 Shelf Life: 1-2 weeks, keep refrigerated Rating: Add your rating! Ingredients: 10 grams shea butter 10 grams cocoa butter 16 grams virgin coconut oil 2 grams stearic acid 6 grams emulsifying wax 62 grams neroli hydrosol (or distilled water) 4 grams vegetable glycerin 10 drops orange or green mandarin essential oil 3 drops oakmoss essential oil 2 drops ylang ylang essential oil Buy Ingredients! Blending Procedure: Combine the shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, stearic acid and emulsifying wax in a large heat proof (I use Pyrex) glass measuring cup with a pour spout. Place the mixture in a hot water bath until the waxes are completely melted. Remove from heat. In a separate Pyrex cup, combine the hydrosol and glycerin. Place the mixture in a hot water bath for about 10 minutes to warm, then stir until the glycerin dissolves completely. Remove from heat. Stir the oils/waxes together to make sure they are evenly combined. In the separate container, stir the water ingredients to make sure they are evenly combined. Begin stirring the oil/wax mixture with an electric mixer on medium speed and add the water mixture as you stir. You will see the mixture begin to thicken as you blend it. Continue mixing until until Whipped Body Cream is thick and rich. I have found that blending for anything less than 10 minutes or so does not allow enough time for this mixture to become stable. Mixing for less time than this could resulting separation. Pour into clean jars. If a jar, I like to use a cosmetic spatula to dispense this so I don't add bacteria from your hands to the product. If you want, you can add whatever preservative you prefer to extend shelf life. You can add the preservative of your choice to the cream by following the preservative manufacturer's instructions for use. (For more information about preservatives, visit our FAQ page.) If you do not use a preservative, your cream should last up to 2 weeks if you have used fresh ingredients and if you dispense it with a clean utensil (like a cosmetic spatula) and store it in a cool, dry place. Soap Bubbles Soap Bubbles Because of the remaining surface tension, a soap film always pulls in as tightly as it can, justlike a stretched balloon. A soap film makes the smallest possible surface area for the volumeit contains. Can you blow a bubble with a pair of scissors, a piece of paper, or a rubber band? In thisactivity, students will experiment to discover what objects can be used to blow bubbles, whichmake little bubbles, and which make big bubbles. Materials: Newspapers to cover tables or desk Bubble solution* Drinking straws Plastic cups Funnels Geometric shapes made from straws and paper clips Shallow flat containers Scissors Paper Rubber bands * Recipe for bubble solution (in a gallon jug) 2 cups Joy dishwashing detergent 6 cups water 3/4 cup Karo light syrup Combine, shake, let settle four hours(Best results, use only Joy and Karo) Soap Breakers Experiments Most bubbles pop instantly when you puncture them, but not these. Materials: Superbubble solution* funnel string about 20 cm (9 inches) long pencil, sharp Experiment: 1. Tie a piece of string around the stem of the funnel so that the string hangs down below thefunnel. 2. Tie a loop in the loose end of the string. 3. Dip the big end of the funnel, string and all, into the superbubble solution. 4. Remove it and blow a big bubble by blowing into the stem of the funnel. The string will liealong the outer surface of the bubble. 5. Using a sharp pencil, poke a hole in the bubble through the loop of the string and watchwhat happens. First, the loop of string will stretch into a perfect circle. Then the bubble willslowly collapse. Why doesn't the bubble pop instantly when you puncture it? The string prevents a long tearfrom developing in the soap film. The bubble can collapse only as quickly as air can escapethrough the small hole inside the string. *Recipe for Superbubble solution (this one can be expensive). 6 glasses of water 2 glasses clear dishwashing liquid detergent (Joy is best) 1-4 glasses glycerine (4 is best, but because of the cost of glycerine, you may wish to useless than four glasses). Glycerine makes the bubbles last longer than usual. Experiment: 1. Working in pairs, blow hemisphere-shaped bubbles in the palm of your hand and recordthe patterns the bubbles make on the data sheet. A. Dip your fingers into water and wet one of your palms so your hand can be a table foryour bubble to rest on. B. Dip the end of the straw into the cup of bubble solution. C. Hold the straw very close to your palm and blow gently. D. A bubble hemisphere should begin to form on your palm. E. You will be able to feel the air that you are blowing inside the bubble on the palm of yourhand. You increase the size of your bubble when you add air. Practice a few times. F. Working only in a single layer, draw diagrams of all the different arrangements of bubblesyou can find. Observe the arrangements you discover. 2. In a shallow container, using a straw and bubble solution, blow several large bubbles andmake a pyramid of bubbles. Draw diagram. 3. Use scissors, paper, and rubber bands to blow several bubbles. 4.
