Because our primitive ancestorswere never exposed to hot water or soap...our inherited skincharacteristics do not tolerate hot water. I believe it is obvious toall that hot water washes away skin oils. Teach yourself to wash yourhands in cold water and take tepid showers. I have seen this curechapping and dry skin problems every time. Think about it: our bodieswere not evolved to tolerate hot water. Why fight nature? Your handswill be every bit as clean if you wash them in cold water. I recommendNeutrogena hand cream. It's very effective. Apply just before you goto bed. If that doesn't seem to be helping enough after a coupleweeks, try putting on some light gloves over the hand cream when yougo to bed (so it doesn't rub off or dry).Also, be sure to wear gloves whenever you go outside in the cold. My hands were hellishly cracking, no matterwhat lotion I used, until I tried this:At night, I cover my hands with about a tablespoon of petroleum jelly,then put on a pair of those stretch "magic" acrylic gloves. They'reusually a dollar or so a pair. Over that I put a pair of largedisposable rubber gloves - your mileage may vary, but I was gettingtired of washing greasy sheets. Icouldn't figure out what I was doing to make my left index fingerchap, but then I realized that I continually dragged it against thelace when tying someone's shoes. I changed that habit and the skinhealed quickly.If you have an area of skin that is in danger but not yet broken,Curad spray bandage seems to help protect it pretty well. Apply to skin after showering and leaveuntil it is absorbed. No washing necessary. They add a nice glow to my lips, they double as a powerful balm for chapped lips, and they smell wonderful. The little glass container and tin lid are very well well made. I would have to say the Lemon Lime is the variety to get if you're looking for something strongly scented. However, my personal favorite is the raspberry because it's an unusual, very sweet scent.
