Two 2-Piece Capsules Provide: Zinc (aspartate) ............................................................25 MG Zinc potentiates the effect of vitamin A in restoring night vision Lutein ..........................................................................20 MG Lutein is a phytochemical that protects against wet macular degeneration. Lutein is a pigment found in dark green leafy vegetables, including spinach, kale, broccoli, and collard greens. Zeaxanthin is found in fruits and vegetables with yellow hues such as corn, peaches, persimmons, and mangoes. Lutein is present in the retina and positively effects macular pigment density. The denser the pigment, the less likely a retinal tear or degeneration will occur. Improvement has been seen in some test subjects after only one month's consumption. Bilberry (20% extract) ...............................................80 MG Dry macular degeneration and other age-related eye diseases are often caused by a breakdown of the circulatory system of the eye. Bilberry extracts have been shown to improve microcapillary circulation throughout the body. Vitamin A (beta-carotene) ...................................25,000 IU Considering ocular health, the eyes are obvious indicators of a vitamin A deficiency, often showing symptoms of dry, itchy, or inflamed eyeballs and night blindness. Vitamin A appears to counteract weak eyesight by encouraging the formation of rhodopsin or visual purple, a pigmented compound in the rods of the retina that adapts the eye to low-density light. Long known to be essential for proper eye development, vitamin A continues to be important for the health of the eyes throughout the human life span, particularly the retina. Higher dietary intake of vitamin A has been found to decrease cataract risk Antioxidants work cooperatively, regenerating one another as they are oxidized themselves in the process of buffering free radicals.37 Vitamin A has been used as a topical agent to treat contact lens problems and external eye disorders for some years now. Grape Seed (95% extract) 100 MG Thought to be one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Grape Seed Extract is renowned for its benefits as a free-radicals scavenger in the body. Quercetin ................................................................100 MG Quercetin is the active flavonol part of rutin. It also is used as a capillary protectant and is a more powerful antioxidant than rutin. Tuarine ...................................................................400 MG High concentrations of taurine are needed within the eye to maintain optimal function and structure. It has been found to protect the lens against free radical damage.27,28 In a series of studies performed by researchers at the University of Maryland,27 rat lenses were cultured with a potent oxidant called menadione. The addition of physiological amounts of taurine-enough to create a concentration roughly equivalent to that which would exist in healthy lenses-attenuated the harmful effects of the oxidant. Another study found that the lenses of diabetic rats were protected against cataract by physiological levels of taurine.29 N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine ..............................................200 MG N-acetyl-cysteine is the acetylated form of L-cysteine which is more efficiently absorbed and used. It is also an antioxidant that is helpful against viruses. N-acetyl-cysteine has been used as a liver protectant and to break up pulmonary and bronchial mucus. N-acetyl-cysteine can boost glutathione levels in cells. Lycopene ...................................................................3 MG Mixtures of carotenoids are more effective than the single compounds. This synergistic effect is most pronounced when lycopene or lutein are present. The superior protection of mixtures might be related to specific positioning of different carotenoids in cell membranes because cell membranes have both a fat and water layer. Taking Care of Your Skin -- -- KidsHealth > Kids > Staying Healthy > Being Good to My Body >Taking Care of Your Skin It keeps your insides from falling out. It helps you warm up when you're cold and can cool you off when you're hot. It lets you feel things by touch. It protects you. What is this wondrous stuff? Your skin, of course! And what does your skin ask for in return for all the wonderful things it does? Just a little care and consideration. So let's learn how to take good care of the skin you're in. Why Be Nice to Your Skin? Like the heart , stomach , and brain , your skin is an organ. In fact, it's the largest organ in your body, but it's still easy to take skin for granted. Unless there's a problem, you may not think about your skin very much. But skin has an important job to do. Your skin is constantly protecting you. Your skin keeps infections out of your body and keeps you from getting sick. When you take care of your skin, you're helping your skin do its job. And taking care of your skin today will help prevent future problems, like wrinkles and even skin cancer. Clean Skin Is Happy Skin One simple way to take care of your skin is to keep it clean. Keeping your hands clean is especially important because your hands can spread germs to the skin on other parts of your body. When washing your hands , use water that's comfortably warm. Wet your hands, then lather up with a mild soap. You should lather and rub everywhere, including the palms, the wrists, between the fingers, and under the nails. Rinse well, dry thoroughly with a clean towel, and you're done! You'll also want to use water that's warm, not too hot, when you take a shower or bath. Use a gentle soap to clean your body. Don't forget under your arms and behind your ears! Your face needs attention, especially as you enter puberty and the skin on your face gets more oily. It's a good idea to wash your face once or twice daily with warm water and a mild cleanser. If you look in the drugstore, you'll see shelf after shelf of skin care products, but kids don't usually need anything more than a gentle soap. Talk to a parent or your doctor if you have questions about what to use on your skin. If you have dry, flaky, or itchy skin, you might use a moisturizing lotion or cream. When choosing a moisturizer, pick one without a lot of colors and perfumes. Petroleum jelly can work for some kids. If you are worried about pimples , look for a moisturizer that is non-comedogenic (won't cause pimples). With pimples, you might think that scrubbing your face is the way to get rid of them. But actually, your skin will be less likely to break out if you clean it gently, using your fingertips, not a rough washcloth. If you have trouble with pimples, talk with your doctor about which cleansers are best to use. Exfoliate Skin

How to Exfoliate Your Face - eHow.com Clear Instructions on How To Do (just about) Everything Web eHow.com Home Personal Care & Style Center Grooming How to Exfoliate Your Face By mildly abrading your skin with exfoliating agents, you will remove the surface layer of dead cells. Afterward, fine lines will be less visible and your complexion will glow. Steps: 1. Moisten your face with water before exfoliating. 2. Use a loofah, exfoliating gloves or a synthetic scrubbing sponge designed for the face. 3. Apply an exfoliating cleanser specially designed for faces to the loofah or sponge. Some exfoliating cleansers contain up to 25 percent pumice, and these should never be used on the face. 4. Rub your face with the loofah or sponge using circular motions. Avoid scrubbing under the eyes, because the skin there is thin and easily damaged by abrasive cleansers and exfoliating sponges. 5. Rinse thoroughly with tepid water. Hot water is harsh on skin, especially delicate face skin. 6. Apply a moisturizer containing alpha or beta hydroxy acids. These acids will continue the exfoliating process, because acids cause additional dead skin cells to slough off. 7. Try an exfoliating mask. Make one by mashing up a papaya and smearing it on your face. The enzymes help exfoliate the skin. Rinse off thoroughly after 15 minutes. Tips: Use products designed for the face only. Those meant for the rest of your body may be too abrasive and irritating for your face. Your skin may tingle after using alpha or beta hydroxy acids. This is normal and should go away after 15 minutes. Be diligent in keeping moisturizer on your face at all times if you exfoliate regularly. Exfoliating causes the skin to dry out, and dry skin is an invitation for skin to wrinkle. Warnings: Never overexfoliate with excessively abrasive exfoliating cleansers, or you run the risk of bursting the delicate blood vessels under the skin. If the vessels burst, your skin may appear permanently flushed. This condition, known as telangiectasia, must then be treated using laser surgery. Tips from eHow Users: Gentle and effective by eHow Friend I've not found anything better than Cetaphil for either removing makeup -even waterproof mascara and general cleansing. I have oily skin, and my husband dry, and we both swear by it. To exfoliate, pour a little baking soda in the palm of your hand and mix with Cetaphil to make a paste. Scrub away. It will not be too abrasive for most skin types, and gentle enough for reactive ones, and inexpensive to boot! To make an oil-control mask, take some Milk of Magnesia, put it on a cotton ball or your fingers, and wipe onto your face. Let it dry. Rinse with tepid water. I'm not affiliated with "The Cosmetics Cop," but found and use these tips particularly. They were encountered by reading the book, "Don't Go To the Cosmetics Counter Without Me", which I also recommend for anyone wanting the low-down on good makeup and skincare practices.
