Nothing wrong with that, right? ;) Anyway, I tried it the first week and felt my skin was noticeably softer and smoother. It also appeared a bit pinker than before I started. I assume it is because there is more circulation of blood to my skin then before. I will expect the improvements to continue, as others have mentioned on the internet. As for the equipment, the applicating tool is very good quality. Solid design, easy hold, and very quiet. When you put it against your face the vibrations will take getting used to. I use a cybersonic toothbrush and am used to the vibrations and humming you'll experience throughout your head. Perhaps that is what the person was talking about who said this unit is loud.. But realistically, it is relatively quiet, not loud by any means.. For you homophobes, you can use it in the closet and not be scared of your girlfriend walking in on you ;) LOL... Anyway, the lotion is gritty like fine sandpaper, but doesn't feel at all harsh on the skin when using it. I enough is provided to get the results you're looking for. At first let me say that just the facial massage is pleasant and then the feel of your skin after just the first couple times is so soft and smooth. I've let my face rest a week and now am into the 2-3 times a week mode. My pores are smaller, my face is smoother and I do notice that my skin is glowing. I am anxious to see if continued use helps small lines go away. I am 47 and have never used anything on my skin that I felt worked like this. I was using the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle cream before this and liked it. The cream contains retinol and they suggest not to use a retinol product with the microdermabrasion system, but I hated to stop using the cream and so I have continued to do so, luckily for me with no skin irritation. I find that using the system at night before bed for about 5 minutes is all I need. Also let me add that this doesn't have a strong smell, it is almost scentless. I tried another brand of microdermabrasion previous to this and the smell of the product stayed on my face all day and became sickening. I would endorse this product, it's great. But use it for yourself and how it makes your skin and face feel. It ranges from mild to moderate depending on the climate. I've tried Proactive (which doesn't work for me or any family members). However I guess proper exfoliation is the key because not only has my face completely cleared up but my overall skin tone is glowing and amazing. Skin I had previously thought was unattainable to me. I've also seen definate fading of the scars from years and years of breakouts. So while it doesn't advertise that it could help treat acne, if you think about it, acne is due to pores clogged with sebum and dead skin cells so proper GENTLE exfoliation is critical. I have *very* sensitive skin and find that this does not irritate my skin at all. And I can rarely buy anything right off the shelf and not break out from it. I am also steaming my face and using clay masks alternately on days that I don't microderm. It's also easy to clean and will be much cheaper to maintain than it's similar as-seen-on-TV counter part. So five big fat shiny stars. Try it. Get it from a place with a good return policy so you can get your money back if it doesn't agree with you. :) Was this review helpful to you? First, it gets rid of all the gunk in my pores including blackheads. Never before have had such clean, clear pores. Second, it helps with sun damage and overall look of your complexion. My face really looks younger and more glowing every time I use it. Finally, it only takes 5 minutes or so. The directions say to do this 2 minutes on each area of the face. So I do it for about 5 minutes and cover all of my face. There's no need to overdo it - in fact, I've read it's bad to overexfoliate so just limit to 5-10 minutes on your whole face and you're on your way to a new you!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! If you take off the sponge top you notice there is nothing that moves or can turn to actually make the sponge exfoliate well. After my "session" I only felt the effect in my hand from the vibration but my face felt the same maybe a bit softer but from the cream it comes with due to when I tried washing it; it is was much more heavy "creme" than "crystals". I gave it two stars to see if it might has any effect if I continue to use it (I hope, for what it costs) but NO WAY does it compare to the real thing. All of those conditions are helped best by prescription strength products, and should be seen by a dermatologist. This website contains basic information for those with mild to moderate dry skin. Some of this information may be helpful to those with more severe problems, but those problems are not touched upon. What Causes Dry Skin? Dry skin is recognizable by its tight, rough feel and its dull appearance. Dry skin is apparent in its upper-most layer, the epidermis. Roughly 80% of the body's epidermal cells are made of keratinocytes, composed of soft protein keratin. The epidermal cells are born in the lowest layer of the epidermis, the basal layer. As these cells rise toward the outer (horny) layer, they undergo many changes, including the increase in the amount of keratin they produce. By the time the cells reach the top, they are no londer alive, and are formed entirely of keratin. If the cells contain too little keratin, the appearance begins to look cracked and flaky as cells slough off. Keratin needs water to keep it pliable and healthy; when there is not enough water, the keratin crumbles and the cells can't stay together. This is what happens when the skin becomes dry. In order to keep this from happening, a way must be found to keep water trapped in the skin, keeping the keratin healthy. Moisturizers and Soaps for Dry Skin Moisturizers are a very important part of dermatology since keeping the skin moist is one of the key factors in healthy skin. Most moisturizers available are composed of some formulation of oil and water, with added ingredients that may or may not help to combat dry skin. However, moisturizers are only capable of keeping moisture from escaping out of the skin, not putting moisture back into the skin. For moisturizers that work by trapping moisture in the skin, the most effective available is petrolatum or Vaseline, which provides a coating over the skin through which water cannot escape. Unfortunately, because it is greasy, not many people like to use it. Ointments are usually like petrolatum, since most have an oily base. They are also very greasy and are usually used at bedtime rather than during the day. Moisturizing creams contain more oil than water and, as a result, are also very effective. These also may feel a little greasy, but less so than ointments or petrolatum. Lotions are the most popular moisturizer because the absorb quickly, but because they contain more water than oil, they are not as effective. Moisturizers are now adding other ingredients to help add to their moisturizing capabilities. Humectants are a class of moisturizers which do not contain oil and may be classified as oil-free. These contain glycerin, propylene glycol, urea, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid. Humectants work by drawing moisture out of the air and trapping it next to the skin. These are especially effective in more humid climates. Exfoliants such as alpha hydroxy acids actually improve the skin's ability to retain moisture by getting read of dead, dry skin. Dead, dry skin cells can add to the problem because these dead skin cells alllow water to escape through their cracks. Alpha Hydroxy Acids help the skin shed these skin cells and replace those skin cells with healthy cells that are able to creat a more effective water barrier. Very dry skin often lacks the lipids found in healthy, young skin. These lipids help the skin keep moisture in the skin and keep it well hydrated. Without these lipids, water escapes easily and skin is left even more dry and cracked. If your skin is extremely dry, a lipid-replacement moisturizer will be the most helpful. We recommend the LRS Lipid Recovery Serum or the TriCeram . Many moisturizers are now adding the lipids into their formulas in order to restore lipids where they might be lacking in the skin. Lipids are located in the outer layer of the skin and work by trapping water within the skin. When the lipid content is reduced, water in the skin evaporates quickly, resulting in dry skin. Use of lipid products can help restore the lipid content in the skin, allowing the skin to retain water naturally. Other ingredients that are often added to moisturizers are lanolin (which may cause an allergic reaction), vitamins, essential fatty acids, collagen, elastin, and keratin. Things such as collagen, elastin, and keratin may add a little to the moisturizer, but they also drive the price of the moisturizer up more than it is worth. Vitamins may be of benefit (please refer to the vitamin page for more info), and many moisturizing products with a fair price contain vitamins. One important tip in the use of moisturizers is to apply to damp skin. This helps trap more moisture in the skin, keeping it better lubricated. Those with dry skin should stay away from deodorant or antibacterial soaps, since they can be drying to the skin. If the odor-fighting capabilities of these soaps are desirable, then it is recommended that they be used only on areas such as the armpits, etc...Cleansing creams and lotions are the most useful for particularly dry or sensitive skin. They leave behind a layer of oil that helps lubricate the skin much as moisturizers do, but they are only moderately effective at cleansing the skin. Mildly moisturizing soaps are probably the most useful for general use since they clean adequately without stripping the skin of it's natural oils. Tips for Dry Skin If you're like most people, your personal cleansing and bathing habits probably grew out of your childhood and teenage years. For most of use, that means frequent baths and showers, deodorant soaps, and a variety of facial cleansers. But if you have dry skin, those very habits and products may be one of the main reasons why your skin is in such bad shape. These habits can strip your skin of the scant amounts of moisture and oil that it has. Here are some steps to take, which can restore moisture and suppleness to your skin: Cut back on baths and showers , even on facial cleansing. Scale back showers or baths to at least every other day or less. In between, you can perform sponge baths on odor-causing parts of your body. Where you face is concerned, people with dry skin should wash with a cleanser only once a day, preferably in the evening. In the morning, just splash cool water or use a moisturizing toner and apply moisturizer. Because cleansers can strip away sebum and natural moisturizing factors from your skin, washing at night gives your skin time to replenish itself, before you need to face outside elements. Morning scrubs don't give your dry skin time to recover its defenses before you go outside. Rinse off thoroughly Soap can leave a film on your skin that is drying. Wash off all residues of soap carefully. Some doctors recommend that you rinse your face carefully-from fifteen to twenty-five splashes-to remove all soap. Approach towels with care Washcloths can irritate your skin , so you should avoid using them. When drying off, pat your skin, rubbing can irritate dry skin. Avoid using astringents and clarifying lotions on your face These products contain alcohol and can irritate dry skin. Keep your house cool Overheated houses are one of the main reasons dry skin seems to occur more often in the winter. The less hot air that circulates, the better chance you have of keeping some humidity in the air. Learn to love plants Plants perform much the same job as a humidifier, keeping more moisture in the air. Keep them watered and see what a difference they can make. Avoid steam baths and saunas Saunas and steam baths can make you sweat, and sweat can leach out natural moisturizing factors in your skin, leaving your skin drier than it was before. Protect your hands by wearing gloves Chapped and irritated dry skin on the hands is a common problem for people with dry skin. Try rubber gloves to protect them from hot water and detergents. If you are allergy-prone, wear a cotton pair underneath. You could develop contact dermatitis from the rubber in the gloves. Exercise Exercise increases blood flow and thus the supply of oxygen and nutrients to your skin. These factors help skin look dewy and firm, undermining dry skin's brittle stiffness.
