He has made up models and movie stars, including Lancôme spokeswoman Uma Thurman. Here Ross shares some great ideas for fixing the dry, flaky skin that often appears under acne. In the morning Step 1: Use an oil-free cleanser to keep the skin's surface clean. Follow with a toner to remove any make-up that remains on the skin. Pat dry and follow with a light, hydrating moisturiser with a pump applicator (to prevent dipping your fingers into anything and transferring it to your face). Step 2: If you wear foundation, use an oil-free formula only in the areas where you need it. Step 3: The biggest mistake women make in concealing acne-prone skin is using too much product as a cover-up. Use a fine-bristle make-up brush to blend three warm shades of concealer to match your skin tone, and apply the concealer with a dotting movement instead of left to right paint strokes. The goal is to diminish the redness and discoloration caused by the pimple(s). Step 4: Set with transparent, oil-free powder to match your skin tone. During the day Step 1: Always carry compact powder for touch-ups. Make sure the puff is not facing the make-up. Keep the plastic piece between the puff and the powder, or turn the puff upside down. Step 2: If the area around your spot(s) becomes visibly dry during the day, apply a clear gel on top of your make-up to keep the area shine-free without over-drying it. In the evening Step 1: Cleanse and tone the skin following the recommended morning routine, and then exfoliate. Exfoliating is an important step because as a blemish dries, there is dry skin around the entire area. An exfoliant removes the excess dry skin. You can exfoliate the whole face or only the areas where you have clogged up and flakey skin. For very clogged skin, exfoliate three times a week. related links ARTICLE: Beauty box: 10 moisturisers put to the test ARTICLE: Caring for combination skin ARTICLE: How to banish blackheads ARTICLE: The pore score ARTICLE: Winter skin protection Get the latest iVillage news on your desktop Sign up for more iVillage RSS feeds iVillage Channels Community Services About iVillage Beauty Diet & Fitness Food & Drink Health Horoscopes Money Motoring News & Showbiz Parenting Pregnancy & Baby Relationships Travel Work & Career Join free Member Centre Competitions eCards Help Instant Games Newsletters Online Dating RSS About Us Privacy Policy Site Map Terms of Service © iVillage Limited 2000-2005. When my old box got replaced by a new box, Indian Brown was gone. How could I possibly draw family members without Indian Brown? (Or was it Indian Red?) We are blessed with gorgeous skin and as kids we just ran and ran and ran and (stopping for breath) ran and ran around outside until our gorgeous skin was tanned into a Mowgli -tinted hue. And there's just no drawing Mowgli without Indian Brown. I mean, you could try, and in a moment of desperation I did make do with the poor neglected colors: Flesh plus Brown with a soupcon of Black. The resulting family portrait looked like an illustration from In Cold Blood and got me a trip to the school nurse for a severe talking to younglady . While sitting in detention with a handful of paste-eaters, I realized that Crayola didn't have Indian Brown disappeared - they just renamed it Siena. And I totally called bullshit because if you're going to rename anything they should have renamed Flesh first. Flesh. Ugh. Not 'Skintone' or 'White People' or 'Cracker,' but Flesh. Now, aside from the question of whose flesh Flesh is supposed to resemble, let's just go with the obvious and say it's the flesh of Anglo I-burn-in-the-sun/the-look-of-corporate-America flesh. Fine. But it doesn't even look like that. My handsome Irish-American dad was never that particular shade of peach, though of course I should add that the Irish do excel at choosing primary colors where their faces are concerned. Remember Tip O'Neill? A lovely crimson. Kennedys? All red. Especially JFK, and especially towards the end. [crickets.] (Too soon?) Anyhoo, the point is that through the wonder of a 64-crayon box I learned that the good folks at Crayola have a better handle on what Indians look like and a terrible sense of what their own WASP-y selves look like. This realization of their total lack of self-awareness is yet another one of those nuggets which has helped me not at all in life, but which I find interesting. Much in the way that I find it interesting that certain celebrities are the offspring of other celebrities, like Tippi Hedren, por ejemplo , or that you can shift gears without using the clutch, especially if it's someone else's car. Oh, and the 64-crayon box did teach me words like periwinkle and cerulean, which I'm sure got me those extra points on the SAT and which in turn set me ever so gingerly on the gilded path upon which I so merrily stroll today, all thanks to higher education begotten by a sesquipedalian vocabulary. Thank you, Crayola. In other news, I give you two celebrity blogs of some note. Here and here . (Via Waxy and some friends who will be sitting next to me in hell.) So, not in your lifetime. Posted by: ogged | March 30, 2005 at 04:34 PM I realized at a very early age that the underside of my forearm is exactly the same color as the Flesh crayon. There was a time when that was cool. Now it's just gross. Posted by: janet | March 30, 2005 at 05:33 PM But I think they DID change the name of the "flesh" color, didn't they? Yes they did! I love how they say they changed it "voluntarily." Also note that they named it "indian" red because of pigment from India, not because of Native Americans. In any case, if you wanted a color for my skin, you'd have to go with "ghostly." Or "speckled," in the summer. And, no, I don't think it's too soon; I giggled all the way through this post. It is safe enough to eat. I'd actually prefer it without the mint -- but it does the job without feeling greasy. It really moisturizers your lips, even if your lips are severly chapped. The company hires the handicapped and is very environmentally responsible. They support local charities and help in the community (donating products to homeless shelters). There are frequent stories in the local newspaper about their operation. If you like supporting a good company, this would be one. Was this review helpful to you? Reinhardt "olivia lee" (east coast)- See all my reviews While I like some things about this product there are some negatives to consider. First, there is no sunscreen which is a big issue for me. I very much prefer lip balms with a sunscreen but for someone sensitive to that ingredient not having one would be a huge plus. Second, I like the feel of the minty-ness. It isn't something that bothers my skin but the peppermint in it could be an irritant to some people. Perhaps, it doesnt bother me because I don't use this exclusively, I'm not sure, but I can see this being an issue for some people with sensitive skin. The texture is a mixed-bag for me. While it feels nice once it's on, I find it a bit *pulling* to get it on. I think that it melts a bit at body temp so once its on, it feels good. I find a bit *stiff* in the tube. I like the tube form as lip balms in a tin are a bit messy to get on and this is easy to carry with you. I haven't had any issues with the cap coming off in pocket or purse. It also doesn't look *feminine* in the tube or have a sweet flowery scent so my son will use it. Was this review helpful to you? Ouch! , January 26, 2006 Reviewer: Shannon Andrae (WV, USA)- See all my reviews I love the Lip Balm, but the Mind Body source wants $9.94 for shipping 5 small tubes of Lip Balm that cost .49 cents each? OUCH! I don't think so!! Was this review helpful to you? ( Report this ) 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Terrific Product, Very Invigorating , January 20, 2006 Reviewer: J. H. Sweet - See all my reviews I have used Cherry Chapstick for as long as I can remember, and I still love it, but I will now be periodically switching off with Beeswax Lip Balm. I didn't think anything could ever make me want to add variety to my Cherry Chapstick regimen, but I was wrong. Beeswax Lip Balm is minty and invigorating, and it feels nice. I have always loved beeswax candles. I now love this product as well. J.H. Sweet, author of The Fairy Chronicles, and Burt's Bees Enthusiast Was this review helpful to you? Szimanski (Michigan)- See all my reviews The vendor "The Mind Body Source" will kill the deal as they want an INSANE amount in shipping. I was going to order 10 of these and the shipping came to $15 for $5 of product. Was this review helpful to you? ( Report this ) Not very moisturizing , January 10, 2006 Reviewer: Justine "Justine" (Pennington, NJ USA)- See all my reviews I personally am not a big fan of Burt's Bees chapstick. It feels cool and everything, but it doesn't really do a good job in moisturing my lips. I would reccomend Chapstick or Softlips, and they are both cheaper than Burt's. Microdermabrasion was developed as

Microdermabrasion @ South Florida Plastic Surgery Associates Microdermabrasion In the quest for youthful, vibrant skin, men and women share a common desire: to look their best, regardless of age. Traditional options, ranging from chemical peels to laser resurfacing to dermabrasion, may not be the right therapy to address your specific concerns. Microdermabrasion was developed as an alternative to these more invasive procedures. Microdermabrasion is a nonsurgical, noninvasive procedure that offers safe and controlled removal of the outer, dead layers of the skin. The remaining skin is more smooth, fresh and rejuvenated. This procedure utilizes medical grade microcrystals that are propelled at a high speed against the surface of the skin. Debris and used crystals are simultaneously vacuumed into a sealed waste container and disposed of. This technique has been featured in Vogue and Elle as the "lunchtime peel" because there is no downtime associated with these treatments. Afterwards, you may safely apply makeup and continue with your normal daily activities. Microdermabrasion is performed in approximately 30 to 45 minutes and is a very comfortable treatment. It may stand alone as a treatment method, or it may be used to complement your home care regimen of skin care products. Some of the uses of microdermabrasion are listed below: To improve skin tone, making it softer and more smooth with a healthy glow To provide a more even skin color for patients with altered pigmentation To diminish large, unsightly pores or acne scars To reduce the appearance of stretch marks To reduce the frequency and severity of acne breakouts To reduce fine lines and wrinkles for a younger appearance How does Microdermabrasion work? In addition to removing the outer, dead layers of the skin through the mechanical action of the microcrystals, the application of microdermabrasion actually stimulates blood flow to the surface of the skin. This enhances the oxygenation of the skin, increasing cell renewal and regrowth of collagen (the structural proteins giving skin its strength). The massaging action of the treatment creates a mild flushing and cleansing effect below the surface of the skin, resulting in a vibrant, healthy appearance and complexion. Am I a candidate for Microdermabrasion? The most ideal candidates for microdermabrasion are those people who are very active and don't want to take the longer recovery time needed for laser resurfacing, chemical peels, or dermabrasion. Other ideal candidates are those who are sensitive to the chemicals involved in other treatment methods, or those who are not responding well to acne medications. How do I prepare for a treatment? When you arrive for your microdermabrasion treatment, you will be asked to remove your makeup because this prevents the even application of the microcrystals. What should I expect during my treatment? The microdermabrasion treatment is performed in our treatment room, requires no anesthesia, and allows you to return to your normal daily activities immediately following the treatment. Microdermabrasion machine Medical Grade Microcrystals Treatment Wand Microdermabrasion Treatment What should I expect after my treatment? Results are noticeable after the first treatment. Your skin will appear light pink with a soft texture. More aggressive treatments may cause the pinkness to persist for the remainder of the day of treatment. However, it is safe to reapply your makeup and/or facial moisturizer following the procedure. You should wear a sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure of the treated area for the first 24 hours following a treatment, because the treated area is initially more sensitive to the effects of ultraviolet radiation. Otherwise, your normal daily activities may be resumed immediately. May I have multiple treatments? Dr. Revis will make a recommendation to you regarding the number of treatments that may be necessary to achieve the results you have in mind. Treatments are usually performed in a series of six, with the first three treatments being performed at weekly intervals followed by the remaining three treatments spaced two weeks apart. Following this initial series, you may choose to have maintenance treatments every four to six weeks. May I have Microdermabrasion if I am using skin care products, retinol products, or having superficial peels performed? Yes. In fact, microdermabrasion is an excellent complementary treatment for most skin care regimens. Dr. Revis often alternates superficial peels with microdermabrasion to achieve the maximum benefit for his skin care patients. How much does Microdermabrasion cost? Treatment prices vary depending on the area(s) to be treated, but they are comparable to the price of a facial and are much more healthy for your skin. Facial microdermabrasion costs $100 per individual treatment, or a 6-pack is priced at $500. Also check for our monthly specials for microdermabrasion packages! If you have further questions regarding Microdermabrasion or which skin treatment regimen might be right for you, please contact Dr. Revis via email or phone (at 954-630-2009) to arrange a complimentary skin care evaluation.
