No, stretch marks haven't suddenly become big business. But thanks in part to aggressive ads that proclaim it "Better than Botox?," the scientific-sounding StriVectin-SD has become the hottest thing in the war on wrinkles--a booming industry that's generating billions of dollars for dermatologists, cosmetics firms and, yes, retailers like Sephora. Global retail sales of antiaging skin-care products--up 71% since 2000--are rising faster than any other segment of the skin-care market, according to Euromonitor, a market researcher, hitting $9.9 billion last year. StriVectin is either the latest fad in that movement or an antiaging silver bullet, depending on whom you ask. Clearly, for every vain soul who has undergone a dermatological procedure, there are thousands more as concerned about wrinkles but squeamish about needles. In the past year, nearly every beauty brand, upscale and downmarket, has introduced a new antiaging skin cream--Estée Lauder's Perfectionist (CP+), Olay's Regenerist Perfecting Cream and Avon's Anew Clinical Line and Wrinkle Corrector, to name a few. "We've been on the antiaging track for a long time, even before StriVectin came along," says Estée Lauder's Peter Lichtenthal, the brand's senior marketing vice president. Klein-Becker stumbled on StriVectin's effect on fine facial lines by accident back in 2002, when the company started testing its new stretch-mark cream. Louis Rinaldi, head of Klein-Becker's new product acquisitions, counters that StriVectin's particular concentration of those compounds and the inclusion of a certain botanical extract make it more effective. There is competition from alleged knock-off brands, which so far has prompted the firm to file 16 trademark-infringement suits in federal court. Facial Skin Care Products for Natural Skin Care. This formula is effective against pollution and grime that interfere with normal skin function. Make it every other day and refrigerate between uses. Beat the yolk of an egg until light and frothy. Add cup milk and mashed half of a ripe peeled Fresh California Avocado. Using a blender or fork, beat to a thin cream or lotion-like consistency. For dry or sensitive skin, apply with cotton squares as you would any cleanser. For normal skin, you may also use after cleansing with soap and water. Save your California avocado peel. The inside contains precious humectants - oils that help your skin hold in moisture. Using gentle upward strokes, lightly massage your face with the inside of the peel. Allow the residue to remain on your skin for about 15 minutes. Gently rinse your face three to four times in tepid water and pat dry. The oil will be invisible but it is there, ready to hold your foundation or powder in place for hours. The residue may also be left on as an overnight moisturizer. We don't know why, but the result of this simple treatment for under-eye puffiness is corrective magic! Peel and remove the seed from a Fresh California Avocado. Slice one half into inch crescents. Lie down and place a few slices under each eye. Relax for about 20 minutes. Remove and rinse gently with tepid water. Pat dry. A revitalizing masque that's gentle on dry, sensitive skin and results in a marked improvement in texture. Beat the yolk of an egg until light and frothy. Blend in the mashed pulp of ripe avocado till smooth and creamy. Cleanse your face and neck thoroughly, pat dry and apply the mixture evenly. Lie down and relax for about 20 minutes. Remove with clear tepid water and a soft face cloth, followed by a cold water rinse or a mild skin lotion. The monounsaturated fat in avocados won't clog pores, making it an ideal masque for oily skin types. Blend the white of an egg with one teaspoon fresh lemon juice and the mashed pulp of ripe avocado until frothy green. Cleanse your face and neck thoroughly, pat dry and apply masque evenly. Lie down and relax for about 20 minutes. Remove with clear tepid water and a soft face cloth, followed by a cold astringent or skin tonic.
