Since 1995, The Body Shop has been buying cocoa beans from the Kuapa Kokoo company in Ghana, a fair trade co-operative with over 30,000 small-scale farmers. The money made by the co-operative enables the development of community projects such as schools and village wells in addition to providing the farmers with income to support their families. But why not give yourself one of the simplest, quickest DIY beauty treats and create your own? You may not think your kitchen is particularly well stocked, but chances are you have enough ingredients on hand to make a fabulous face mask. The only equipment you'll need is a mixing bowl, a fork, a wooden spoon and a few fresh ingredients. A blender or food processor will also be helpful if you want to save preparation time, but it isn't essential. Below are some basic masks for different skin types, but feel free to use your imagination when making your own. The advantage of homemade masks, of course, is that because they use fresh ingredients, they're free of additives and preservatives. You can even make yours 100 per cent organic if you choose. Enjoy these facial indulgences, which will help moisturise and exfoliate skin, leaving it with a healthy glow: Nourishing face mask for dry skin You will need: 2 oz/60g ripe avocado flesh 1 oz/25g orange juice 1 tsp/5g pure acacia honey 1 tsp/5g molasses 5 drops chamomile essential oil Put all the ingredients in a blender, or mash by hand in a bowl. Add extra orange juice if the mixture is too thick. Use your fingers to spread the mask over your face and neck and leave it on for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer, before removing. Use a warm flannel to rinse off the mask - this will help gently exfoliate skin as well as clean your face. This mask will keep for a day or two in the fridge if you don't use it all. Honey face mask for sensitive skin Warm a small pot of honey in a double boiler, then test a small amount on your hand to make sure it's not too hot. When warm, apply the honey generously over your entire face. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm, then cool water. Read on for our daily skin care solutions Choose a mild cleanser. Avoid harsh cleansers and grainy scrubs, as they can actually make your acne worse. Resist the tendency to cleanse vigorously because this may further irritate the skin and do more harm than good. Don't wear make-up to bed. Make sure you remove all cosmetics with a mild cleanser and water before going to sleep. Don't use astringents. If you remove too much of your skin’s natural oil, your glands will react by overproducing oil, which in turn can cause acne. Don't pick or squeeze spots, as this can lead to scarring. When choosing make-up, buy only oil-free products, which will be labelled noncomedogenic. Use an oil-free and non-comedogenic sunscreen daily. Treatments for mild acne Acne can't be cured, but it can be managed successfully. Treatments for both mild and severe acne work in one or more of the following ways: By reducing oil production By reducing the bacteria that causes infection By improving the way dead skin cells exfoliate so they can't clog pores. For mild acne, doctors often recommend using an over-the-counter remedy before resorting to more serious treatments that require a prescription. Keep in mind it takes about a month to see results from over-the-counter products. Here are some of the most widely used medications for mild acne, available at your local chemist: Benzoyl Peroxide : This is a drying ingredient that helps reduce oiliness and kills the bacteria that causes spots, but it doesn't affect oil production. It comes in creams, gels and lotions. Benzoyl Peroxide is available over-the-counter in mild forms, such as Oxy On The Spot and Quinoderm cream, and by prescription in stronger formulations. Salicylic acid : Sold in creams, lotions or pads, this product fights blackheads and whiteheads by helping to unclog pores. Popular brands include Clean and Clear Cleansing Lotion and Neutrogena Clear Pore Lotion. Sulphur lotions : Available in creams and lotions, these sulphur-based products reduce bacteria to help control whiteheads and inflamed spots. Look for brands such as Clearasil Treatment Cream. Botox® is safe in

Botox® - Treatment, Risks and Cost Information Botox® Botulinum Toxin Botox® is a toxin produced by a bacteria called botulinum. Although in very large doses it can cause botulism, Botox® is safe in the doses used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. It has been used safely for decades in the United States. It originally was used to restore a normal voice for people with a vocal chord condition called spasmodic dysphonia. It has also been used to treat eye twitches, escessive palm or armpit sweating, and headaches. In the mid 1990's, plastic surgeons began using Botox® injections to treat facial wrinkles. Wrinkles that Botox® Will Target (Botox® is only effective for dynamic wrinkles ) Botox® will dramatically improve (and often vanish) horizontal forehead creases, scowl lines between your eyebrows, crow's feet, and vertical wrinkles of your upper lip. Botox® is ineffective for fine wrinkles because they are not due to facial expression. To address fine wrinkles, you should see Skin Care , Micropeels , and Blue Peels . Botox® is also ineffective for wrinkles around your mouth that are due to sagging cheeks. To address the wrinkles from sagging cheeks, you should see Facelift . How Botox® Works Dynamic wrinkles, such as crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles, are due to repetitive facial expression. Weakening the muscles responsible for these facial expressions can dramatically improve these wrinkles. With Botox®, these muscles can be weakened without detracting from your facial expressivene. The Procedure Botox® can be injected by your plastic surgeon in the office. You may experience brief mild discomfort as you are being injected. Following injection, recovery is immediate: you may place make-up and return to work immediately. A few experience mild bruising which improves within a few days. You will begin to see improvement in your wrinkles within 24 hours and continue to see improvement for 5 days. How Long Does Botox® Last? Botox® results may last about six months, although the range varies from 3 to 12 months. Cost of Botox® Your surgeon will pay $450 for each tiny vial of Botox®. Your surgeon will charge you about $200 - $300 for each area injected. Expect to pay this amount every six months to maintain your result. Risks of Botox® No negative long-term effects have been observed. Very few short-term problems have arisen. If Botox® is injected too close to your upper eyelids, temporary upper eyelid droop may result. This can take months to improve. Injection of your forehead will diminish your ability to raise your eyebrows. This is not a problem for most, but those with marked eyebrow droop may find that their droop worsens following injection. Risk of allergic reaction is extremely small. Women who are pregnant or who have nervous system diseases such as ALS Should not receive Botox®.
